Separate from the main lodge is the Windwalker House where the girls reside. During evening hours, this space is utilized for group therapy. Group therapy allows peers to come together and share challenges, successes, and perspectives. They learn that they are not alone and that meaningful relationships are not only possible but essential for social grounding. Being vulnerable is an essential element in recovery and with openness and honesty, the kids learn to rely on others and begin to understand that others rely on them.
The architecture of the therapy building is more open for supporting larger groups. It is also used for recreational purposes. A large game room can be found here for movie nights on weekends or to root for their favorite team. The back deck overlooks the fields and trails with mountains as the backdrop beyond.
The front of the Windwalker building is central to campus group activities with a basketball (and sometimes pickleball) court and a beautiful lodge-style covered area with tables to take a break from the sun. Adjacent is a large fire pit area where we get together at the end of a busy day to sit, reflect, and share with others. Having different areas to be together helps each teen discover a way to discover something new about themselves, find personal joy, and create memories.
